Back to Beef: A Temporary Vegetarian’s Guide to Eating Beef Again

Beef may not always be what’s for dinner, but for a lot of vegetarians, it’s back on the menu. So why did they become vegetarian in the first place?

While there are several main reasons why people turn to vegetarianism, the most common reasons seem to be the ethical treatment of animals, health, and environmental reasons. While these reasons may seem logical to some, there are many downsides to being vegetarian as well, which we won’t get into here.

No matter what the reason is for making a choice to become vegetarian, it seems as though quite a few people find their way back to eating beef again. Why?

According to Psychology Today, there are five reasons why vegetarians return to meat.

  1. A decline in health.
  2. Social stigmas.
  3. Costs associated with vegetarianism.
  4. The urge for meat was irresistible.
  5. A shift in moral thinking.

We would never discourage anyone from making the choice to stay away from meat. We simply want to make sure it’s understood that our beef is a healthy choice for a diet rich in protein and essential vitamins.

At Millner Family Farm, our beef is grass-fed and grass-finished with elevated concentrations of vitamins A, E, and increased levels of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. We treat our herd with the utmost respect and will never use antibiotic-treated feeds, pesticides, growth hormones, or chemicals.

You Get Out What You Put In.

You’ll hear this phrase used by quite a few nutritionists, providers, and other health experts. If you want to feel better, eat better!

Our grass-fed beef has a diet of 100% native and improved grasses in open pastures just like nature intended it. This means that our herd gains valuable nutrients that are necessary for a healthier beef product that is passed on to our consumers. We strive to make sure our grass-fed and grass-finished Maine-Anjou beef is not only the healthiest beef on the market for you and your family, but the most humanely treated animals as well.

If you don’t think sustainable grass-fed beef from a local farm is healthy, Consumer Reports has a survey for you. To summarize, grass-fed beef raised without antibiotics is safer for us to consume and is less likely to contain bacteria levels that can be found in conventional beef.

How easy is it to get back to eating beef?

In one word, “EASY!”

If it’s obvious that being a vegetarian is taking its toll on your life and you are finding the urges irresistible, your body and mind are obviously telling you something. Whether you’re a lifetime vegetarian, or you just got started a few months ago and you can’t take it anymore, take it easy and know that there are healthy meat options which are also humane.

If you’ve turned to vegetarianism for health benefits, come on back – our healthy food is waiting for you.
